League: Bursledon Church 2 - 1 TESTWOOD BAPTIST CHURCH
On the way to the match it was quite obvious that we didn't expect to get anything from this game. This was probably due to the fact that Bursledon were last season's champions, plus earlier this year they'd beaten us 8-3. As the match got underway, we were surprised by how well we played and how many chances we created ( Martyn Knight , Steve Gillingham and Rich Oag (to name but a few) came close to scoring).
But after 15 minutes our defence was caught flat-footed, and as Shaun Sweeney came off his line he was lobbed! About 10 minutes later he was called into action again, but this time pulled off a magnificent save.
Apart from this it was a fairly balanced first half, but then with half-an-hour gone, it was Bursledon who scored again.

Half-time. Bursledon Church 2 - 0 TESTWOOD BAPTIST CHURCH.

When the second half started it was as if we were playing against a different team. They gave us so much time on the ball, it was unbelievable. We then had a good 10 minute spell, during which we kept the pressure on. We came close to scoring several times with shots from outside the area, but the ball just wouldn't go in! Later, Jon Buss hit a terrific shot which the keeper did well to save.
At this rate it looked as if our goal-in-every-game record would be broken. But with about 5 minute left, a long ball (by he who wishes to remain anonymous) found Steve Gillingham who lined the ball to Roger Frapwell , who drove in a low cross which left BEN KNIGHT with the easiest of tap-ins.
For the rest of the game we kept the pressure on and defended well, but were disappointed not to get a draw in what surely must have been one of our best displays.
Steve Gillingham was awarded Man-of-the-Match.

Many thanks to all supporters, but especially to Geoff Robinson for linesmanning and for chauffeuring us home!
