How it all began…

There they were, all football mad teenagers, at Testwood Baptist Church Youth Club, when someone suggested starting a football team.  Roger Frapwell was the Youth Club leader then too, back in 1988, having just taken over with Ali from Brian & Janet Oag… and with a vague interest in footy himself thought this could be a good idea.  But which league?  We began some investigating…

In the meantime the Youth Club got hold of some old orange shirts and black shorts, then entered a 5-a-side competition at Applemore College.  No idea how many teams were in it but it was an adult competition.  Apart from Roger, then a youthful 24 year old, the average age of the rest of the players was about 14. Remember Roy Walton? Terry Walton? Lol Simpson? Martyn Knight? Rich Bisson? Finally there was little Ben Knight, who was younger still, who went in goal.  Yes, we were the underdogs, and yes, we were out in the first round, but not before getting a couple of well deserved draws in our group matches.  Can you imagine the cheers of everyone else when we scored!!  Twice in fact, one coming from Lol, the other from Biss – as he was affectionately known.  We went out on penalties.  Nuff said.

“When I realized all these things about him [Jesus] I just knew that I had a decision to make. I started investigating to find out if it was true what he said”.
