Cup:
Locks Heath Baptist Church 2 - 8 TESTWOOD BAPTIST CHURCH
Testwood
began their march towards The Millenium Stadium, Eastleigh with a
tough draw
away to Division 1 side Locks Heath. We hoped this competition
could provide
our first foray into Europe since a choppy ferry trip to
Calais
in 1993.
Locks Heath
fielded a strong side after pipping us to the Division 2 title
at the
end of last season. Even the attraction of out of town shopping next
door to
the pitch at Whiteley could not attract some of TBCFC's stalwarts,
so in true
Chelsea style we used our squad rotation system. Paul John,
Ashley
Archdeacon and Richie Chapple were all called up for their senior
debuts.
Testwood
followed up last weeks slick 5-1 win with a gritty first half
performance
in which all the new boys impressed, especially CHAPPLE who
opened
the scoring from 18 yards. Well structured goals from GRAHAM McCLAREN
and the
evergreen ROGER FRAPWELLl helped us to a 3-0 first half lead.
The introduction
of Chris Allcock (direct from a wedding!) added steel to
the midfield
and Testwood systematically deconstructed Locks Heath with 5
more goals
flying in within 25 minutes of the second period. One more from
McCLAREN,
a first goal for PAUL JOHN and three more from the Dorchester
bound FRAPWELLl
compounded Locks Heaths woes.
Just as
the heat from the furious scribblings of referree Roy Bega was
cooling,
the home side finished the game with those time honoured
anticlimactic
consolations making the final score 8-2 in favour of Testwood.
This was
a satisfying victory for Testwood following last seasons last day
disappointment
at Whiteley, when Locks Heath won the title and John
Cunningham
was refused a refund on his Dolce and Gabbana bermuda shorts!
Onward to
the second round, we're on the road to Fleming Park!!
