League:
Meon Valley CF 2-5 TESTWOOD BAPTIST CHURCH
After a
not-quite-as-long-as-we’d-like-thank-you-very-much pre-season, our campaign
kicked off a little earlier than anticipated.
Our first
match was against Meon Valley CF who’d finished third last season, one
place below us. They’d also looked quite good in the pre-season 6-a-side
and so we new we’d have to be at our very best to beat them.
The game
kicked off and for the first 20 minutes we were very poor. Meon we’re first
to every ball and coupled with the way the wind was blowing we were well
and truly ‘under the cosh’!!
After about
15 minutes, a needlessly conceded corner gifted Meon the lead, when the
ball was cleared to the edge of the box and a Meon player fired in a low
shot that Duncan Cheyne saw late, and couldn’t stop.
Around
this time Testwood’s regular right-back Jof Billows had to make way for
Phil Elliot after a nasty collision, and washer treated for whiplash (Nothing
to do with his driving to the game!!).
About 10
minutes before half-time a sweeping Testwood move saw Roger Frapwell thread
the ball through to ROB OAG who ran on and beat the keeper with a low finish
to the far post.
Back on
level terms we began to compete at last and a second goal followed when
a cross by Frapwell was laid off by Oag to CHRIS HUTCHINGS, who blasted
the ball into the unguarded net.
Half time:
Meon Valley CF 1-2 TESTWOOD BAPTIST CHURCH
An inspirational
half-time team-talk by Frapwell saw Testwood come out fighting (not literally!!)
in the second half.
The boss
[FRAPWELL] led the way as he raced onto a long through ball knocked it
past the advancing keeper and made the score 3-1.
Mid-way
through the second half OAG added a fourth after a defensive mix up, shortly
before Meon grabbed their second.
To wrap
things up DAVE PRINCE came off the bench and, in a bizare goal, was allow
to run half the length of the pitch, with no-one within 20 yards of him,
to get on the end of a goal kick and lift the ball coolly over the advancing
keeper.
Final score:
Meon Valley CF 2-5 TESTWOOD BAPTIST CHURCH.
