Interns Programme 2017–2018Testwood Baptist Church
Internship Programme 2017 – 2018
There are opportunities for an intern to be involved with either the Youth and Children’s Department or Community Outreach, in addition to gaining some general church-based experience. Interns would be expected to participate in Sunday worship. Interns should be prepared to indicate at interview which ministry area they are most interested in. It is likely that each intern will be mainly engaged within one church ministry although there may be opportunities to get involved in other areas too. The church is eager to develop the programme in a way that will best match the gifts and interests of the intern with the needs of the church. There will be an opportunity for the individual to discuss this with the church and agree to a programme of activities which the intern will be involved with.
Each intern will be assigned a supervisor who will direct their activities and provide support and guidance. There will also be opportunities to meet with other interns for mutual support.
The programme will run from September 2017 until July 2018. The role involves engagement in church activities for 20 hours a week. This is to be worked over 3 days including Sundays and up to 2 evenings a week.
The role is self-supporting, but we can offer various training and development opportunities. In addition to gaining practical experience with guidance from a team of experienced church leaders, there will be an opportunity to undertake courses or training. The current interns are all enrolled on the Transform Programme with Above Bar Church in Southampton; however training options will be discussed with the applicants to take into account individual interests, skills, experiences and development needs.
It is expected that the intern will find alternative part-time employment for the days he/she is not engaged in church activities. The intern should also allow themselves some study time in order to gain the most from their experience. Unfortunately we are unable to provide accommodation.
